A Homemade Mask

Let's be honest, is your face feeling destroyed lately because of the dry winter weather?? I know mine is....therefore, we are in need of a deliciously hydrating mask. Masks are one of those things that are so easy to throw together! What makes it so easy is that you most likely will have the essentials in your refrigerator or cupboard.

Here's an idea for those with dry skin to try out and see if it will help loosen up that pretty face of yours.

What you need:

1 Egg Yolk
1 tsp. Honey
1 tsp. Olive Oil or some Vitamin E Oil if you have it.

Mix together and apply generously all over face neck chest where ever you want. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water. Pat dry and of course moisturize.

Why egg yolk you might ask? The Yolk of an egg is full of water and fat acting as a great emollient and water binding agent leaving your skin Soft, Supple, and Smooth.

Why Honey? Honey is very high in antioxidants and can give your skin the nutrients it needs to stay smooth and reverse the damage done by free radicals, making your skin glow.

Why Vitamin E? Vitamin E helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Dry skin tends to thin your skin therefore creating fine lines and wrinkles meaning you age faster! We don't want that.....Vitamin E it up!

Happy Wednesday :]

What's in Your Makeup Bag??

I LOVE Makeup. I always have. I remember jabbing a mascara brush in my eyeball when I was like 4 because I wanted to be like my sisters and wear makeup. When I went to aesthetics school, I originally went so I could have the skills to be a professional makeup artist. Little did I know, in school, we lightly touched on makeup and I didn't learn nearly enough about product but I did learn a lot about ingredients in makeup.
Annnnyyywaaayyyyy I want to share with you my daily makeup products. These are the products I use every single day when I put on my makeup in the morning.
(Colors will change based on the event, but generally this is what I use :])

Step One: Concealer.
I use Mac's Select Cover-Up and am obsessed. I love this stuff so much! I generally use it under my eyes, dabbing a small amount, letting it sit for about 30 seconds then blending it in. You can you a concealer brush but I'm lazy and use my finger.

Step Two: Tinted Moisturizer
I'm not so much a foundation girl, I don't like the feeling of goo all over my face. Plus, I don't really need it. So, for a nice thin shield to cover some of my imperfections, I use
Dermalogica's Sheer Tint Moisture. This stuff is so awesome. Plus, it has an spf which you should always find a foundation or moisturizer with one because you ALWAYS should be protecting your skin from the sun. :]

3. Primer
Love Primer! Especially Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It helps your eyeshadow stay on all day long and leaves no yucky crease! Love love love.

4. Powder
I love Cliniques loose powders. They are very sheer and light and are really good to just brush on and dash out the door leaving a clean crisp look.

5. Shadow
Have I said I am obsessed with Urban Decay? Their eyeshadows are ridiculous. They have so many awesome color pallets too. Midnight Cowboy Rides Again, and Stray Dog are my top two absolute favs!

6. Liner
I'm not picky with eyeliner. Although there are some that will bleed and run and create that goop in your tear ducts but I find pencils way better than liquid liner. I only put eyeliner on the bottom inner part of my eyelids not on top, only because I have smaller eyes and darkening them on top will make them look even smaller. No no. Don't want that. So I just get whatever eyeliner I feel like!

7. Mascara
Holy Amazing! Maybellines Colassal Volume Mascara is awesome! I'm sure many of you use this. Good choice. I also really like Loreals Telescopic Eyes mascara too. There's no need to buy a tube of 20 dollar mascara when there are perfectly perfect ones at Target!
8. Rouge aka Blush
Everyone needs blush. Nope. You need it. Because, it's cute. NARS. Ohhh myyy. All of it is incredible. Especially their Super Orgasm powder blush.
The name will have you back for more. Inappropriate? Nahh.
9. Bronzer
K. This technically isn't a "bronzer" but it's close eneough. Mac's Mineralize Skinfinish. Once again, LOVE. I am a fan of sparkle and shine and this tops off the perfect glow for your cute cheeks. Mmmm.
10. LipLiner
Lip Liner is so great in highlighting those luscious kissers. It just helps to make your final steps complete. Don't choose a dark color please? This isn't 1997. Xoxo. I choose Mac's lip liners. They last forever and just using a very neutral color creates a very natural look.

I'm sorry but Mac is awesome. I've had and used almost all of their glorious lipglosses. I'm no fan of lipstick so I finish off my ready to go look with a few swipes of LipGlass.
And there you have it. This is what's in my makeup bag. :]

Apricot Scrub: Uh Oh...

K. Almost everyone knows what Apricot Scrub is right? You keep it in your shower....only use it every once in a while....cause it hurts so bad.....? Right? This stuff is rough. You might as well scrub your face with sandpaper it's that abrasive. You should exfoliate at least once a week just to help your skin stay pretty and bright and to get rid of those dingy dead skin cells. There are many ways to exfoliate.

Here's my confession: I use Apricot Scrub. Ahhhhhhh! Sue me. Only I DO NOT put what's in the tube directly on my face. For those of you who have it and don't want to throw it away because you know it cost 4 bucks and you may use it later once your skin is a bit tougher (good luck) here's what you can do and what I do. I keep in my shower next to my A.S. a bottle of a cream cleanser (Dermalogica's Ultra Calming Cleanser. You only need a teensy-weensy bit of the scrub and a good pump of the cleanser and voila! You have totally diluted the scrub into a nice, creamy, nonabrasive exfoliant. But remember, there's such thing as over exfoliating so only do it once a week if even that. Maybe every other. You don't want to dry out your skin and sloff off those paper thin layers. Your skin is delicate. Be nice to it. Happy MLK Day!

Cleansing Your Specific Skin Type

Keeping your skin clean is key to having "good skin." Although some people are just unlucky in the genepool. Luckily, neither of my parents had terrible skin although I have had my moments like anyone else. When I was in school we used all Dermalogica products. I loooove Dermalogica. They have great lines using all natural ingredients, no chemicals whatsoever. I need to do some more research and discover other lines and try out their products but that will be for another time. My absolute fav is their MediBac Clearing line. I don't use all of the product involved with it, (I have before and it works wonders) but I swear by the cleanser. So at night, I use the MediBac Clearing cleanser and a light moisturizer (Dermalogica's Active Moist) to seal the deal and lock in that goodness that cleared out my nasty pores.
Everyone's skin is different. For me, I don't really have oily skin (except for maybe my nose a lil bit), so I don't want to overdry my skin by washing it twice a day. Even though everywhere says wash your face morning and night, I don't disagree with that statement one bit. You SHOULD wash your face morning and night, especially if you have oily skin.
I found this article on ehow.com which explains what you should do in taking care of your skin with each type:

Normal Skin

  • Normal skin should be washed twice daily. Wash once in the morning with cool water and a mild cleanser, to remove any dirt or oil that has built up while sleeping. Dry the face, and go about your daily moisturizing and makeup application. In the evening, wash with a mild cleanser, and follow up with a facial scrub if you wear heavy makeup. If wearing long-lasting eye makeup, be sure to use an eye makeup remover designed specifically to remove thick mascara and eyeliner.
  • Oily Skin

  • Oily skin requires a bit more treatment, as oil and dirt build up in the pores more quickly, leaving skin with a greasy look. Wash the face at least twice daily, with a face wash designed specially for oily skin. If wearing makeup or moisturizer, use oil-free products that will prevent excess oil from building up. Wash the face in the morning, afternoon when possible and again before bed. With your nighttime regimen, use a face wash and follow up with a toner that is designed to remove excess oil and buildup. Toner can also be used throughout the day to absorb excess oil, if dabbing with a tissue does not pick up the excess.
  • Dry Skin

  • Dry skin also requires special care, as washing too often can over-dry, causing cracking and peeling of the skin. Wash the face in the morning with cold water only, do not use a cleanser. Choose a moisturizer made for dry skin, and apply as directed. Wash the face again at night, this time using a mild cleanser, and makeup remover if applicable. Exfoliate with a face scrub to remove dead skin cells, then follow up with moisturizer again to replenish the skin.
  • Skin With Acne

  • It is important to handle acne with care. First, determine your skin type from the categories mentioned above, and follow that cleansing routine. Be sure to use a soft washcloth when washing the face, as scrubbing hard will further irritate acne and cause inflammation. While some facial cleansers are designed specially for skin with acne, if your problems persist, purchase an acne cream designed to be dabbed on the acne itself, and left on overnigh
